Below is some useful information about the actual day.
UPDATE: 05/04/2017 - All plans below are now the confirmed final plans
UPDATE: 18/1/2017 - WE'RE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR AMBASSADOR, DOUBLE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNING CYCLIST JOANNA ROWSELL SHAND, WILL NOW BE JOINING US AT
ALTON TOWERS! Joanna will be with us for the day. We will facilitate a Q&A session at the lunchtime meet up and Joanna will go on the rides with some of the groups. Further details to be released in due course but we look forward to spending the day with Joanna!
UPDATE: 17/1/2017 - this year we have been offered a room by Alton Towers which will make a fab base for the day, particularly for our lunchtime meet up. Full details will be sent out to all attendees in due course.
9:15 - 10am (10:30am at the latest) - Arrival & ticket collection from volunteers waiting in the entrance
10am - Organised groups go through to the park with their volunteers
Please note that arriving AFTER 10am may not have the same impact or 'buzz' as if you arrive BEFORE 10am because most people will have gone through. As such we recommend arriving before 10am to get the best first impression of the day as the next big group gathering isn't until lunchtime (and bear in mind that the park is BIG so it can be hard to find a group once they have set off).
1:30pm – 2:25pm - lunchtime meet up. Will take place in Hospitality Suite which is number 11 on the Alton Towers map (next to Spinball Whizzer). Note that this meet up place is different to previous years!
2pm - Q&A with Joanna Rowsell Shand
2:30pm - Big group photo, location to be confirmed on the day (but it will be near the Hospitality Suite - we'll all walk out together).
2:45pm - We’ll send group/s off round the park again.
4:55pm - Final Group Photo Opportunity. The park ride queues shut at 5pm. We will try and get the last ride of the day on Runaway Mine Train and fill the train will people wearing blue tops (last year we did this twice over mind you as there were so many of us!).
5pm – Ride queues close. 6pm - Monorail Closes.
We always facilitate groups to go round the park together. These are optional but a great way to meet others and make new friends! We have had a lot of feedback from attendees who were really pleased to have joined a group and felt they got more out of their day because of it.
This year we will facilitate the following groups:
Group 1 - CBeebies including Octonauts and Justin's House (min height 0.9m)
Group 2 - Congo River Rapids, Runaway Mine Train, Duel, Skyride, Th13teen (min height 1.2m)
Group 3 - Rita, Th13teen, Oblivion and Smiler (if time) (min. height 1.4m)
Group 1 - Battle Galleons, Duel, Runaway Mine Train, Congo River Rapids, Heave Ho! & Sharkbait Reef (min height 0.9m) plus Marauders Mayhem (min height. 1.2m) - some may splinter off and do Spinball Whizzer, Enterprise and Th13teen (min. height 1.2m).
Group 2 - The Smiler (if not done before lunch), Galactica, Nemesis, Blade and Runaway Mine Train (min. height 1.4m) - group may splinter with some going to The Smiler and others straight to Galactica.
Group 3 - Chilled - Join Group 2 to Forbidden Valley and go to the Coffee Lounge.
The groups have been designed around height and thrill seeker status as opposed to previous years where we’ve done it on age and gender! If you would like to take part in a group (whether for some or all of the day) you can make your decision based on: • How much of a thrill seeker you are • Your height and the height of those in your party!
If you need to find a group on the day you can message Jen on 07763293687 and she will find out where they are. Alternatively you can use the Facebook Group (if you are not in it add Jen as a Facebook friend - search 'Jen Chambers Alopecia Jen' - and then she can easily add you).
We do not expect to be able to keep over 200 people together but we do want to give people the option to go round together as a big part of this is having the opportunity to meet others with alopecia which we know can be really beneficial. And there can be a lot of time waiting in queues so it is nice to have people to chat to! As the day goes on people might break in to smaller groups, which is absolutely fine. We want the day to be easygoing and for everyone to just enjoy themselves and have a good time!
