QuoteReplyTopic: Worried Father Posted: 07/March/2018 at 2:37pm
Hello Folks I'm the father of a 10 year old girl. Late 2016 she suffered a small amount (less than half) of hair loss from one eye brow. A few months later some more loss to both upper eye lids and two very small spots (3-4mm diameter) on her head. Dermatologist diagnosed AA told us likely to re-grow and we started using Protopic on the eye brow. Middle of 2017 eye brow was OK and eye lids recovering. Reason I'm posting on here is that I've recently noticed that she has no significant hair on her arms or legs (not sure about torso), she did have in mid 2016. Also her scalp is quite visible on the sides but this maybe her pulled back hair style or just because her hair is thin. From what I have read AA is spots of hair loss which get larger but she only has two on her scalp and they are quite small. So why the lack of hair on her arms and legs? I'm worried this could be AU developing but don't want to go back to the Dermatologist to avoid worrying my Daughter. Any ideas what could be causing the arm and leg hair loss? John.
Hi John, I have had AU for 8 years now and I have had patches everywhere. My patches will grow in and fall out somewhere else. The hard thing with alopecia is no two cases are exactly the same, I think we can have similarities but you can definitely never tell what it is going to do. I'm probably not much help but I just wanted you to know that it might still be AU as that's how mine is 🙂.
Thanks for the reply. Looking back at photos I can see she had body hair last summer but not last winter, and now gone again this winter. Limited evidence but maybe it's seasonal. Going to make sure she gets lots of sun this summer, keeps eating well and most difficultly I'll try not to worry too much. I may be back though! Good luck to all, John.
