Liverpool Children Support

This is a new group which had its first meeting in December 2016.  The following are welcome to attend the Liverpool Children Support meeting:
  • Children and young people with all types of alopecia up to the age of eighteen (male and female)
  • Parents of children with all types of alopecia
  • Siblings of those with all types of alopecia (accompanying someone with alopecia)
Please note that those age under 18 must be accompanied by someone age 18 or over.

If anyone is able to provide activities or workshops for the group or come along to help out then please get in touch with Kathryn as we would appreciate any help that anyone can give.

Meetings

The last meeting was on Saturday 14th October 2017.  This group tends to have two meetings a year.  Please check back again soon for 2018 dates.

The meeting will be informal and structured the same way as our other Children's groups.  We will provide activities and games for the children and parents can join in or chat among themselves.  Just to give an idea of a typical support group meet the following attended our December meeting and the March meeting was similar:

We had:
  • 9 Children with alopecia (5 girls, 4 boys - aged 4 - 13)
  • 1 siblings
  • 15 parents/grandparents
  • 5 adult helpers with alopecia
Which made for a great meeting!

Info for future meets...

Cost:  There is no cost to attend this meeting.  But please let Kathryn know that you will be coming so that we have an idea of numbers.

Who is it suitable for:  Children, Teenagers and Parents.  Please do register your details with Kathryn so we can plan effectively.

What do I need to do beforehand?  Please email Kathryn and let her know how many of you are coming, along with everyone's names, and the age of any children coming along (making sure we know which child has alopecia).  It is also helpful for us to know what type of alopecia your child has as well as the extent of the alopecia.

Can I bring my other children?  Yes.  Just ensure you let us know how many of you are coming.

Finding the venue:  The venue is a school in South Liverpool.  There is free parking on site.  Head for the Reception sign on the school building.

Traveling by car:  If you are traveling from Manchester, take the M62  to Junction 6.  Leave M62 to join Knowsley Expressway/A5300 (following signs for Liverpool Airport).  At the end of the Expressway, turn right on to Speke Road.  Stay on this road, go straight past the turn off for the Airport, pass a retail park on your right hand side and go straight through next set of lights. At next traffic lights, turn right onto Horrocks Avenue.  You will see Dunelm Mill on your right and the school is just behind it.  Go past the school to the break in the road and do a u-turn accessing the side road on the left to enter into the school.

Traveling by train:  Liverpool South Parkway station is within walking distance. Come out of the main entrance and turn left.  Continue walking and follow the road around to the left onto Horrocks Avenue.  The school entrance is on your left hand side before you reach Dunelm Mill.
