"Having seen the smiling faces of those who took part in the Total Warrior Challenge last year on the Alopecia UK website, I thought this would be something I might like to get involved in. Having met Amy (Alopecia UK’s London Support Group leader) at the London meeting and she said she was doing it again I made the decision to sign up for this year's challenge.
From early in the year I had decided it was time to get myself fitter. I was turning 50 and definitely wanted to improve my health and wellbeing and this was an excellent opportunity to have a goal to aim for which would keep me motivated.
I joined a local gym and took up various classes to become more flexible and stronger. I really enjoyed feeling better physically and I noticed I had a lot more energy and started to feel more positive about myself.
Signing up for Total Warrior and taking part in it has been such a wonderful experience in every respect. I had one of the best days ever with such a fantastic group of people, who I now call my friends. No one cared what they looked like, everybody was there to have fun and raise funds and awareness, on International Alopecia Day no less! I relished every moment of it, the camaraderie of the team and the fellow competitors made it so enjoyable; I just want to do it all over again!
I am so grateful to Alopecia UK for organising the team and for the kind sponsorship received. I am proud to be an Apatchy Warrior. The whole experience has made me realise that I am totally accepted by others, no matter how I look. By doing something to help others I have gained new friends, a new confidence and a much greater acceptance of my Alopecia."
A huge thank you to Elaine for taking on the ice, mud and fire for us!
